Summer in Minnesota.  There are some staples that Minnesotans look forward to every year.  This weekend is the Fishing Opener Saturday and Mother's Day on Sunday.

There is also the unofficial kick off to a Minnesota Summer and that is an event that has been going on for a few years.  That is the Minnesota State Fair's Kickoff to Summer event which happens over Memorial Day weekend.

Fair food is just a part of summer in Minnesota.  People do love fair food.  We all know it isn't great for you, but it is something that we do tend to indulge in at least once or twice during the summer with all the county fairs as well as the Great Minnesota Get-Together.  If you have some allergy issues, or need to be gluten free, that can be somewhat of a challenge.

The vendors at the state fair have some great options if you do need to go gluten free. You do need to check with the vendor if their items are gluten free or gluten friendly.  The difference being gluten free if you have an allergy, and gluten friendly if it's just a sensitivity.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE VENDORS THAT WILL BE AT THE KICKOFF EVENT?

Al's Subs and Malt Shop

You can ask for ice cream in a dish for a gluten friendly option.  If youi would like a vegetarian option, obviously just ask for a veggie sub.

Andy's Grille

Auntie M's Gluten Free

All of their options are either gluten free, vegetarian or vegan.  They have you covered!

Baba's - Great Hummus in many different varieties

Park Ball Cafe

Bayou Bob's

Beverages by Giggles - 2 locations

Giggles has many options including non-alcholic beverages and also beer and wine

BIg Fat Bacon - you get the idea here.

Cafe Caribe

Cheese on a Stick

Chimborazo

There are so many others that will be offering food and beverages throughout the fairgrounds.  This is definitely smaller than the actual state fair, but basically there is something for everyone.

WILL THERE BE ENTERTAINMENT?

There will also be live entertainment sprinkled throughout the fairgrounds for you to enjoy.

Remember, you do need to get tickets for this event online prior to Memorial Day weekend. The tickets are limited, so that's why you do need to get them ahead of time.  You can go to the Minnesota State Fairground website for all the information, times, and what other vendors will be on site.
